The last days I have been playing Oblivion… A very good game I must say! And from the 3D engine view of it, the graphics are by far the best thing around! I can easily get carried away into looking at the sun setting! I really don’t like the face system again, like in Morrowind. It really breaks the feeling the overal graphics create. Until now the only game I know that does good generated faces is EVE online. It is close to perfect, and they didn’t even use a middleware solution like Oblivion does.
The autogenerated trees system on the other hand is amazing! The forrests look so vivid and natural…
I have to get a grip and don’t get lost in the world of Oblivion…

The tree system was using SpeedTree, a middleware solution. It seems alot of studios use middleware these days, But it never used to be like that. Maybe it’s just getting too much for one studio to handle, so they need to license technology to reach the deadlines.
